Washington DC

We drove to Washington DC (about 1.5 hours away) for the day. We left the house at 7 am so we could be at the ticket booth before 9 am to get free tickets to a tour of the Capital building. We got there in time (some people had been IN LINE since 7:30 am) and got our tickets for a 2:15 pm tour. We bought tickets for a trolley to take us around the city. We stopped by the White House on one of our stops.

Our last stop of the day was at the United States Botanic Gardens. It had a really cool train display outside. We enjoyed going inside where it was warm. They had models of several of the Washington buildings made out of all botanical materials. Above is the Capital Building.

Vietnam Memorial

This is the WW II Memorial that is fairly new with the Washington Memorial in the background.

Dawson at the Lincoln Memorial

This Christmas Tree at the Vietnam Memorial had handmade ornaments with notes on them, saying things like, "Thank You" and "We will never forget you".
