Monday, June 6th

Woke up this morning to 200-300 neighborhood children arriving in their uniforms for the preschool that is on campus. At 7:30 am they gather in the yard for morning P.E. class which consists of reciting the alphabet and other phrases while jumping and hopping around.
After breakfast we walked down the road to the Primary School for a visit to the classrooms. Each classroom has about 75-90 students for ONE teacher!! They sit 3-4 kids on wooden benches and are very well behaved. They raise their hands to speak and stand to talk.

I was so glad to see the second story of the school to be built since last year!! The school is already outgrowing its classrooms.
We split our group up into 3 groups and went into the classes to sing to them and they sang some songs to us. The older kids asked us questions about life in the US.

After lunch we drove 1 hour to the town of Iganga. It is a strong Muslim town and Pastor Isaac, from Canaan's, tried to start a church here but failed. A woman named, Joanna, and her husband left their singing careers to start and church and an orphanage. In 2 years, there are 70 in the church and 41 in the orphanage! While we were there, the kids sang for us, of course! We passed out suckers to all, trucks to the boys and headbands to the girls.

Even the women of the community came over to get a headband for their babies and themselves.

We played with the children outside and Brittany and Montana had a good game of "keep-away" with a ball made out of plastic bags and string.

When we arrived back at Canaan's, the kids came running and squealing up to the van so excited to see us! I'm gonna miss these greetings!!
I took Anna and Bridget into my dorm and put some new dresses on them! The reason Anna is not smiling in this pictures is because she was sick with a fever. She perked up later on that evening.
